Haru (Spring in Japanese) is a calligraphy based contemporary serif with large apertures, simplified details, less contrast and large and heavy x-height. I carefully revised the work of Gerard Unger's Swift specially on the balance of the font.
Type design started by drawing calligraphy which then was sketched and applied to the computer. Both calligraphy and Fontlab was taught and supervised by a type designer Marta Bernstein. The booklet Making of Typeface navigates how to design a typeface from this personal experience.
